Fun stuff. Those chain damascus barrels are beautiful.

One thing that struck me about the pix...we aren't going to have gunsmiths for the next generation if some young people don't get into the trade.

Their were a few younger guys in my class and in Dennis Potters double gun class. I just did not happen to catch them in my random photos.

I for one don't consider myself old, and no I wasn't in the pictures. Roger got all the process except the boiling part so his barrels are brown and white, I kept telling him to boil but he was stubborn!

Very nice job on the barrels. Is it motor oil on them or linseed oil. Dr. Gaddy used both and I have used both. If you heat the barrels and apply either, they get a sheen to them. I like the linseed oil better because the shiny finish hardens and lasts for a long time.
As Chuck said, the chain Damascus is nice, and also the star Damascus.

Do you remember what the humidity and temperatures were when doing these. Also how many rustings and etchings?

The gentleman on the resophonic guitar is Leon Bell, played with the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. The guitarist to his right is Cristy's father, who knows a lot of songs and sings well.

Not sure the temp or humidity of the cabinet, Iowa or Wis. would be more humid without a cabinet. As Mr. Beasland says it's repeat rusting and etching until you get the contrast you want. It took from 6 to 10 rustings and the etching dip would not be reproduceable as the strenth of the solution varied over the week. It was way more work than I thought it would be but well worth the out come.
