Nice. Does EPS always outperform for you? I've never tried it. I have to confess I am of the "cheapest brick" school of .22 LR marksmanship.

You cannot buy accuracy with .22 ammo but you can buy consistency. Living where I do I am very limited by what I can buy and shipping ammo here is out of the question except for large lots. Remington-Ely EPS is available here.

This is a Niedner .22-short rifle that I put a Green Mt. barrel on so I could shoot LR with it. It was chambered for EPS. IMO accuracy in a .22 is 25% Ammo, 25% barrel and 50% gunsmith.

This was a test of five 5-shot groups at 50 yards testing barrel rest against forend rest.

Michael, you said it all with that first sentence.

And your test results speak for themselves! Both you and Brent have encouraged me to use the muzzle rest method for testing, and your results on paper have convinced me!
Many thanks for posting, Joe

Joe, I use a barrel rest but no longer a muzzle-rest. I have a hard flat front sand bag (brick bag). I put the barrel on the bag and slide the rifle forward until the forend just touches the bag. I do this for every shot to make sure that the rifle is in the same position each and every time.

I feel more comfortable with my cheek touching the stock with a little downward pressure. I cannot do this the same way each time so I have off shots with the barrel in a sled or resting out near the muzzle.

PS: This applies to single-shot rifles using lead bullets. Rifles like my Borchardt shooting .25-HP work best off the forearm.

.17HMR Low Wall. I had a hellofa time with my lack of familiarity with this type of scope. Gil Parsons built it for me several years ago from left-over Lyman parts, has 2 minute dot. Adjusting in the wrong direction, forgetting to pull it back in the mounts. Huge different view than spotting scope... Needed to elevate front base to bore sight.
Did get an excellent 100 yard target with brand-new Winchester ammo, supposedly the only non-CCI ammo around. (My shooting rest situation really sucks. In great need of upgrading)
Rifle still needs stock finishing, checkering, screws timed, engraving and metal finishing...
