Very nice looking rifle, please post more pictures when it's done.

That's funny because I have all kinds of problems with modern internal adjustment scopes.

You might be more comfortable shooting your .17 HMR Low Wall if you moved the scope eyepiece a little farther forward, as illustrated in this photo of my 6mm/.225 High Wall:

Just slide the tube forward until the eye relief is right for your shooting position and then reposition the clamp on the tube in front of the front mount.

MIchael,
I've been jealous of your shooting rig and target results all week, sure wish we could go to the range together and you could coach me on proper external adjustment procedure. It feel like a complete idiot when I get near to point of aim adjust the scope, then the next group is off the paper and I have NO IDEA where it went!
I figured the front base needed shimming, but the first trip to the range I never hit paper. I just ordered a 5/16" front base to go with the 3/16" rear base (Steve Earl) Is that totally out of the norm??? Can you see how much I had to shim it?

That rubber eye cup puts the scope at the Perfect eye relief. It also block out sidelight and rests easy against the glasses. Got it from Parsons.

Hard to say about shims without having it in my hand. I bore sight in the shop and then when I get to the range. If the first shot is not on the paper I move the target closer.

After I have the first shot on paper I set the rifle so that it will not move in the front and rear rest with the cross-wire on the bull. Being careful not to move the rifle I look through the scope and move the cross-wire to the bullet hole.

Many times I bump the rifle so I just fire another shot and repeat. With two people doing this it's way easy, the shooter holding the rifle and looking through the scope and the other person adjusting the scope for the shooter.

I believe that you should not pull the scope back into battery but slid your finger along the barrel and push it back. It's not uncommon to see me trying to push a modern scope back after shooting grin.

No Wonder!!! I put the cross-wire on the bullet holes...
(how do you spell D-O-L-T?)
Push back from the front of the scope?
Thanks Michael.

IIRC, pushing back on the front of the scope is how most if not all of the old-timers did it. I seem to recall a mention of Harry Pope's use of this method, and also the practice of twisting the scope's tube the same way each time, to remove any 'lost' motion in the rotational-alignment mechanism (Pope rib).

A new snugly-fitting alignment pin and a recoil spring will preclude this problem in most cases, at least for the 22RF.
Regards, Joe

Keep those groups coming guys!! It is very interesting to me!
I'll be contributing some shortly. I'm working on light recoiling loads for the grandsons so they can shoot in the Military Bench Rest matches at our club. Although the quality of my 03's don't really match what we've seen here, they're not giving up anything accuracy wise. Fun stuff!

Great, I'll look forward to see how they shoot. If you need something to shoot for in the accuracy department I can drag this out. smile

Ross King, I fired ten as quick as I could, I watched the first two at top and then let fly. Wood contacts the barrel about everywhere and has a barrel band sling swivel through the stock.

Just wanted to see how wild it would get.

I've been looking on ebay for spotting scopes, but don't see that model that you mentioned above...SR 60?

That looks awfully "woodsy" there...do you bring a big rifle for the bears even on days that you shoot .22? I can see a big brownie sticking his nose into your business, coming by for a cup of coffee.
