Yep, once back at the computer it looks like Huntington still carries Norma 9.3X72R brass:

Sharps, I would hold off on buying 9.3x72R cases, until you make a chamber cast. A bore diameter of 9.8(cited in the text of the description at the auction site)will likely equate to a nominal caliber of 10.15-10.3. You may need 7x65R,30R Blazer,9.3x74R,Mauser "A"(MB)base, or 43 Spanish base instead.

Thank you Mike, I have held off!!! If the horses were well fed and watered the Cape gun should arrive by post today and the fun will begin.

I've been following the 9.3 case thread and have gained additional knowledge. I'm ready to go to work on the gun.

It will be interesting to see what the rifle chambering actually is, I'm very curious.

Cape gun arrived this evening and I picked it up on the way home from church. Looks pretty much as the pictures show. I'm too tired to do anything with it tonight but I did look it over pretty good. First thing I noticed, the 16 bore has straight rifling in it. I've read and heard of that but I am pretty sure this is the first example I've seen. I'll give it a going over tomorrow after work.

Ah, the suspense. Couldn't take a diameter measurement at the muzzle?

Being an early riser, when nature called at 4:15 AM I just stayed up. This old gun really has my curiosity piqued.

I slugged the bore and it is not a 9.3. By my best measurements it is .413-.415 groove diameter and .395 bore diameter. By using an online metric conversion table that comes to 10.55 or there abouts. Chamber cast will have to wait until later today but the case appears to be a bottleneck.

This old thing is really tight to the face and the Jones underlever snicks beneath the trigger guard like it is new.

The 16 bore barrel has 6 main, almost Heny style straight riflings and between each of those are 6, lesser almost Henry style straight riflings.

Well, I'll say it then before The American cackles that Ford was right. But since you been smitten Sharps, you should go ahead and acquire the 9.3s as I think there is one in your future. I really want to hear how the straight rifling patterns, especially with larger shot.

Kind Regards,
