Maybe the A-10 American isn't living up to their sales expectations and realized that the RBL was a better seller then they originally thought.

I received the order confirmation today from Galazans for a 12ga on a16ga frame, standard wood, straight grip, splinter, coin finish, reversed double triggers and choke tubes. It will have a solid game rib. I asked them to select wood to make it as light as possible and to tell me the weight before finishing so that I could opt for 26 inch barrels if it isn't light enough. I would HIGHLY recommend you spring for a gloss finish on your wood, specifically with a dark red/brown stain added. You won't miss the extra money in the long haul, and you cannot imagine how much it improves the look of an RBL with standard wood. I would also recommend the case-colored receiver, but my guess is they have some coin-finished frames in stock and made you a better deal on those. Hope it is all you want it to be regardless. JR

JR I know - nothing is guaranteed, etc. But putting aside the business ethics issue, this strikes me as a bad business practice. CSMC cannot credibly market the Inverness (or anything else they come out with in the future) as a limited production gun - no one is going to believe them. Look at the response to the PIF offer for the Inverness - everyone now knows that PIF = discount + end of delivery line.
Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

Not to correct you Gunflint, I believe the coin finish was the standard for the RBL launch 20ga. CCH being the upcharge option. The RBL 28ga was CCH standard. I don't recall a coin finish option but there are a few around that are coin finished. Then again a 12/16 wasn't freely advertised although they obviously exist. I am waiting to see if a 16/20 was ever built. I doubt it but you never know with RBL's.
Once again I am sending an E-mail to CSMC to ask if they will provide a set of the light 12ga barrels. I will also ask about building a new gun. I would think that they may be more willing to build the whole gun, we'll have to wait and see.

I should explain that this is the gun I had originally discussed. It is a partially completed gun that I could take over. The action is still in the white so I'm really just opting for no CCH. I have a 20 RBL Launch edition with coin finish so that will match. After a couple seasons of use I'll refinish the wood anyway with my own proprietary finish so I won't bother to have them do anything now. As I said, this is a working gun. It even has 3 inch chambers if I feel the need. I did consider the O/U they are offering, but I prefer double triggers. I already have a single trigger Ruger Gold Label.
Ask for Kamil if you want to order an RBL. He did say they had a few actions left.

Yep, I knew that. We're on the same tack.
I went back through some ads and found that CSMC calls this a french gray finish. I suppose coin finish would be more like chrome or nickel plating. There have been 28ga's up for sale that had their french gray finish even though the ads didn't offer it. Seems like you can get what you want if you talk to the right person!

CSMC has several RBLs in stock and will/can mix and match them. They'll also do some customizing on existing guns.
As for weight, it varies considerably from gun to gun based upon wood density (typical). When I purchased my RBL 20 ga Lou let MD peruse the several RBL Reserves they had in stock so I could find the one I wanted weight wise. In English/splinter the weights varied from 5lb 8oz to almost 7 lbs. I settled on a 5 3/4lb gun with a bit of bbl heaviness. Once I added a pad to get me to 15 1/4" lop the gun balances just ahead of the pin and is a hair under 6lbs. Its a wonderfully light, but balanced, gun.

As to the question of durability, I have had no problems at all with my RBL in several years of use. It's my "go to" shotgun for pheasants and sharptail grouse. Mine is not a 12 gauge though- it is a 16 straight stocked gun which weighs 6 5/8 pounds with the shorter of the included recoil pads. I believe that these are very good guns.

I own a 16, 20 & 28ga. The 16 is only one I ordered new; with just a standard 5/8" pad, not the interchangable system. Bot 20 & 28 on secondary market. All nice no problem guns. I'd order a 410 except for price and my life expectancy might not be long enough for delivery.
