If you are putting enough oil on a gun to the extent it collects dust and dirt, you are using WAY TOO MUCH!

I've been using Rem Oil for day to day cleaning and wipe-down. It's handy in the aerosol cans. I spray it down the barrels and run a fuzzy wand with a bronze brush at the tip down the bores at the range. When I get home, I wipe the gun down again and put it away. I don't own anything I worry my methods will damage. I take almost all my guns in the field and hunt with them. They pick up some nicks and dings and scratches even though I try to prevent it. I'm sure I'm abusing them to some people, but I don't plan to quit the abuse.

One other comment. It is the salt on human skin not acid that causes finger/hand print rust. Rust Proof has a zinc compound in it that counters the Cl in salt that causes the rust. My preference is to wipe down with Rust Proof and it has as a carrier light weight kerosene or similar low residue petroleum distillate. Rig for long term storage.

The formula for WD40 has been changed recently.Use to use it to start gasoline engines but it will not anymore. Bobby

Most of the old aerosol penetrants used isobutane/propane as a propellant. The EPA put the kibosh on that some time ago. Now they use CO2 or other inert gas and thus it will not start an engine. The way to tell that change is to look at the output stream, if it is fan shaped it is isobutane/propane, if it is a solid stream it is some other gas.

I've been using Eezox for a year now; best in my book. After it dries it still looks almost wet, but won't come off on your finger. I use it on all the metal. Use a damp artist's brush to do lock work. Also recently cleaned out the rib crevice on my doubes with a toothpick and gave them a good dose with the brush.
