In the case of the Boss for sale here, the owner indicated that the proof house had done the actual hacksaw job. Lagopus indicates that this is the action (of an auction house) which enables the legal sale of out-of-proof gun. I get confused about the desire to have the barrels for "resleeving." What precisely is [re]sleeving and why one would "want" the old barrels. Sleeving I understand; new pipes sweat into the chamber ends of the old. Would the old tubes be necessary as a pattern for striking the exterior of new in the area of the forend? --as a pattern for fitting work on lugs? --or only to get the breech ends to avoid the lug fitting (which I would think is the major economic advantage of sleeving)? If you wanted them lined by the Teague process (which I understand is not currently available) I'd think you'd want (in the case of the Boss) the damascus "shell" complete for "cosmetic integrity." The midbarrel hacking would sure make that end impossible of accomplishment.
