My first gun was a 20 ga Mossberg 500 with a poly-choke and no SN. Ugly, but I didn't know any better, growing up surrounded by repeaters. It went in the safe after I got back into shooting and discovered that guns can be had with two barrels. I pulled it out recently, dropped in a snap cap and when I tried to pull the trigger, I thought the safety was on - it wasn't. It took less effort to cycle shells through that gun than to drop the hammer. I sold it but I kinda miss it . . . .

Dad has a M12 20 ga. that I hope not to get for a long time, but when I do, that will be a fun gun to shoot.

I don't care for autos but there is something about a pump gun with a lot of field wear - an American icon, like GLS says.
-- Agree with the Dad and M12 20 gauge-- My late father got a new M12 20 ga.- 28" Mod. plain barrel field gun in 1931-- older "perch bellied' style stock, smaller 14 ringed corncob forearm-- and must have been about the time WRA went to 2 & 3/4" chambers, as it is so marked on the mag extension. He shot it for everything, and then in 1937 he "stepped up" and bought a 12 M12 field grade 30" Full, with solid rib, and then shot that for everything- In 1953, on my Birthday, he and my Grandfather bought me a new M12- a 20 like Dad's- 28" mod, but with solid rib--and I 'retired' the Savage-Stevens hammerless single shot 20 gauge full choke shotgun they gave me at age 9--Still have them all in my possession yet today, but not either Dad or Granddad to hunt them with--or for our Sunday afternoon Spring and Summer barn pigeons shoots at area dairy farms--those boyhood dreams got me hooked on both Model 12 pumpguns and my love of shooting barn pigeons for wing shooting practice in the off seasons--
