I have three; two skeet guns and a Barnes-barreled "composite" with Colonial Arms tubes so it's a skeet gun, it's a 16 yd. trap gun, it's a pheasant gun. I don't sell them here because of da rules which, as Runs mentions, is still rules altho only honored in the breach thereof and also because them "eumatics" make me euphoric and I just can't part with one.

I am not much for repeating shotguns, but I did fall in love with a Marlin 'Standard Gun' made in 1898. It was well used, and somewhat abused, and required lots of TLC. It has no bluing left, but is quite functional. All the safety devices work properly, which can be the ultimate demise of a Marlin pump if not maintained properly. I will use it for the occasional nostalgia hunt. Cheers!

Then of course, the '97 begat the '12, the '17 begat the 37, and despite the hump the homely 520 begat the 620, minus the hump and then died out due to general ugliness. Meanwhile the '31 begat the 500...Geo

I have several each of Model 1912s, 12s, and 42s, and used to have an Ithaca 37. The Winnies may be built better than an 870, but if I could only have one gun for the rest of my life, it would be my 870 Magnum with nice checkered wood and Rem Chokes. That gun will do everything.
My Model 1912 20ga with solid rib and 25" Full barrel is really a sweet dove gun, though.

I think I have an old model 12 in the gun room. Let's see if I can find it? Oh ya here it is. Pretty sure it's Ken Hurst work. Not sure on the spelling there.

Bill, that is a beautiful gun you have there. I have owned several Model 12's including a 28 bore at one time. Hate to put it this way, but sorta 'outgrew' them. I used to hunt with a 20 gauge.....quail killing machine, just like the Browning A-5. I can't shuck the things very well anymore with a bad shoulder and sold all of them except for a .410, Modell 42 prewar skeet with a solid rib, English stock.....really neat little gun. I prefer doubles now since I don't need 5 shots (A-5) or 6 with the Model 12. One thing about the Model 12, you can just hold your finger on the trigger and keep pumping and empty out 6 birds in no time. Now though, I'm a conservationist and limit myself to two shots. Model 12's and 42's and A-5's are excellent guns IMHO though!!

One of my favorites is a Model 12 in 16 Gauge skeet I was lucky enough to find one of those a few years ago, solid rib, choked WS-2.

Mine is Vent rib and WS-1 A sweet shooter for sure. Now though, I'm a conservationist and limit myself to two shots by loading only two cartridges at a time at the skeet range to insure a healthy brood crop of clay pigeons.

I have one. Of course.
It's a 16ga. field gun. 16ga. on a 20 ga. frame. Near perfection, as far as a trombone goes.
Those who bash, really should branch out. There is a whole wide world out there.
Now, the demise of the M-12 was the Remington 870.
It has merits also, and not just as an industrial triumph.
If you are truly honest with yourself, shoot both guns, skip the Winchester nostalgia, and evaluate from a pure shootability viewpoint...
The 870 wins. It won in the marketplace too, and it wasn't even close.
