That go kart bumper jack is about as close to an art form as they get..A long Barreled Model 42 is just plain pretty, and a wonder and a delight to shoot. Model 12's are as well. Theres just something about a well used Model 12, no finish, slick as snot, that is just plain beautiful...It says "American"

Somebody say something about model 12's? I only have 6...... Here's my pride; Model 12 trap that I use in ATA events. Don't fret , I also use a model 21 in doubles events.

The Winchester Model 12 was the best hammerless pump to come along until the Remington Model 31.
Mark Arie was shucking his Marlin when he won the Olympics at Antwerp in 1920. He did use the Western Cartridge Company's ammo though.

Pump Action Shotguns are the quintessential American Repeating Shotgun. Winchester 1897s, 1912s, and 42s are very fine guns, as are the Remington M17s, M31s, Ithaca 37s and the often overlooked Savage Model 21 and 28. I know I am leaving some good ones out - but these are pump guns that I own and shoot. My favorite shooting pump is a Model 31 16 gauge - perfection in a Corn Sheller !

Sorry, Bilious; I won't rise to the bait.....go bet money in a quail shoot against a redneck with a 20 ga. model 12 that has no bluing or front sight. Take plenty of money so you'll have some to get home on.
All shotguns, even Professor Joe's damascus oldies have a certain appeal. I love 'em all but just happen to shoot a SxS more than the others.

If I don't have my history mixed up John Moses Browning invented the Winchester 97, the Remington 17, and the Savage/Stevens 520 (which endures the trademark Hump of the A-5). My personal favorite corn-shucker is the Remington model 31, but you've gotta admit Mr. Browning's efforts are American Classics!...Geo

Thanks George. I'll bet what I paid for my 1939 field grade M12 28 gauge with 28" solid rib barrel that a 20 gauge Model 1912 (25 inch barrel 2.5" chamber) is the gun that Havilah Babcock was writing about in his great quail shootin' story "Slim Boggins Mistake"--And for the other fine gents here who also agree about pumps (not just Model 12's- the Remington M31 is also a sweet shuckin' pump as well) the writer Charley Waterman once said "Never bet your foldin' money against a man shootin' a well worn pumpgun (Rudy Etchen come to mind?)--
I usually have the same thoughts about Limeys as I do barium enemas, but Gough Thomas is one clear exception to that rule. In Stuffy Olde Britain, where the bespoke double (or matched pair) is "De Riguer" for driven bird shoots, Mr. Thomas gave favorable mention to the Model 12 as being "Eumatic"-- I've been shuckin' them since I was 10 years old-- and as Bob Seger once sang: "Don't wink, don't blink, don't even think"--
Like Pee Wee Reese throwing a hot peg to first base to beat the runner- "It's automatic- you don't even know you are working the slide--"!!

My first real shotgun was a Model 12 in 28 ga. I suspect my father hoped I would loose interest and he would have a dandy quail gun. Sorry Dad. I burned many a case of Wnchester 1 ounce lead shot loads over decoys as a youth. I have read all the crap about square loads, perfect loads and can tell you for a certain fact that model 12 was perfect gun and a perfect load for a young person to fall in love with shooting for a long lifetime.
