Does anyone here know of a Canadian Gunsmith who can work on an early set of Beretta 682 barrels, in particular welding and recutting worn locking bolt recesses, gun is a bit loose.

Beretta has oversize locking pins available.

Just looked at mine, Mike... the barrel shoulders that have the pin holes in them come off too.

They can be replaced.

Thought I remembered that.. mine has a bazillion rounds through it and is still tight.

I believe all 682's are like that and can be tightened either way or a combination of both.

Also, the hinge trunions can be punched out and replaced. That may be more necessary than the locking pins and holes.

The trunnions on a 682 screw in. There is a socket for an Allen wrench on the inside face. I had one gun that got a little bit loose, and just switching the trunnions from one side to the other tightened it up. I have also replaced the locking bolts on one due to wear. As I recall, I picked up the new bolt from the Beretta gunsmiths at a large skeet shoot.

Thanks, guys. A friend and prominent trapshooter says the holes in the barrel are worn and are not round. A buddy of his had his locking recesses welded and recut.The trunnions look new.
I always wanted a 682 especially a greystone finished one. This gun has been shot lots since the mid 80s
I paid a very reasonable price for it so I have wiggle room for any work to be done.
I tried to call Coles yesterday but they had left for the day. I cannot ship the gun from Canada to the US, so I was wondering if there is a good Beretta 'smith up here in the Great White North.

Shotgunjones, my gun is not here at the moment, the detachable barrel shoulders hold the locking pins?
Then perhaps my friend was thinking of a 686 with no barrel shoulders to replace.

I have never heard of anyone replacing the barrel shoulders or welding the locking pin holes. A little rounding of the entry point of the pins is normal and usually not addressed. Beretta gunsmiths use a dedicated reamer to "reround" the holes, then replace the locking bolt with a larger one. This should last forever. Is there a national clay target shoot where Beretta may have a gunsmith presence?

Your comment makes total sense, re-round the holes and have larger pins fitted. That's why I was looking for a good 862 smith up here, it is so annoying we cannot ship a trap gun for repairs in the USA.

Try calling these folks. I bought a gun from them a half dozen yrs ago. Good folks and they state that they are the Beretta warranty repair depot for Canada.

Mike the advice already given is good. The pivoting trunnions come in over sizes to assist in putting the barrels back on face, changing them side to side very often works. Oversize locking bolts are available and because they are conical on the barrel mating face there really is no need to ream the mating holes. Barrel shoulders also come in oversizes but later 682's were fixed and unable to be changed, changeable ones are easily identified by their retaining screw (absent on fixed shoulders). A GOOD gunsmith can fix any wear & tear for a small cost.
