Souinds like it has been tightened and not eased in the correct places .If the action has been squeezed in then it may be "grippiong " at the very top of the lump were it meets the flats .This makes it very hard to open initiasly but when it has poened a little way it is normal .

Rookhawk-Regarding your Grulla, how hard do you close the gun? I'm not trying to start another unending "how to close a double" thread but I had a gun that would be very hard to close if slammed shut. The gun operated fine when closed normally, no easing over of the lever but just closed. It usually occurred if someone at one of the local clubs asked to look at my gun. They almost always opened it, then slammed it closed like they did their O/U's. It would almost take a hammer to move the lever. I know the mechanics of some O/U's seem to require a gun be closed with some authority, but some of those guys get crazy with the slamming.

This was so exciting. My mind actually went numb reading all this stuff. Ultimate solution: Don't buy a cheap import gun. Or sell the one you have!

Hammergun, I've closed it soft and I've closed it firm. The gun is just very stiff when I try to start opening the lever. The gun is as new and probably has less than 300 shells through the gun in total. Rookhawk-Regarding your Grulla, how hard do you close the gun? Some progress has been made. I applied ink to the rear of the forend iron and opened and closed the gun a few times. (The top lever seems to move with a normal amount of force - it is the barrels that are hard to move.) This part of the iron is rather rough with lots of machining marks so I guessed that was a good place to start since it looked like it needed some smoothing out. It opens a bit easier now but I think it could still be better. I actually took to much off and the forend began to wiggle easily on the barrels when the gun was in battery. I had to adjust the spring driven catch to get the forend tight again. I removed the extractor and stoned all the edges until that moved freely but I do not think that helped with the problem much. When opening it, it is the last few degrees that are the hardest. I also carefully stoned the leading edge of the receiver to be sure that there were no odd burrs or other defects there that might cause a problem like this.

It must be the forend if the barrels fall right off if you open the gun with the forend off, surely?

Take it to a gunsmith that knows about double guns .It is a matter of "freeing" something any competent smith should be able to do in quickly and correctly . Action not words .

Sounds like the radius of the frame knuckle is not machined concentric with the hinge pin.
