For years I 'managed' my collection in three ways. Managed by those I kept in safes in our other homes, those I kept in the gun vault as I hunted around the Upper Plains and those that needed to go down the road so others could be brought in.
Now in what I believe to be the last decade of hunting the Uplands as I have hunted them for 54 years, I need to manage them far differently. I need to disperse most of my collection so that my wife does not have to do so. Most of the guns are 4k to 10k shooters.
To date I have placed a number of them with two very well known and active agents and with the market soft, only two have sold in the last 15 months.
Will those of you are in that stage of management, please add your methods to this thread? I not think doing so would be drifting away from the OP's question.

Three parameters for me, 1) No safe(s) queens, everybody gets shot 2) Total number not to exceed X 3) Total value not to exceed $X
I suppose I've bought and sold at least three times as many shotguns as I've kept. But oh, the keepers! Hunting and shooting them aside, the "process" has been a tremendous pastime and a real education.

Looks like I should have known better than to ask a bunch of fellow gun addicts how they manage their addiction. Buy more safes! LOL.

I quit coming up with rules for collecting because everyone knows rules are meant to be broken!

Wish I could give advice on this, but the vault is full and the overload has started to overflow out of the locked closet...... My son keeps telling me I can leave some with him next time I visit.

I have more guns than I need, but not nearly as many as I want.

Our safe is holding about twice as many guns as it is supposed to. We got money for a new safe, but then decided it was best spent on another gun. My wife is as addicted to gun buying as I am.
A true collector never worries about where he is going to put it.

Somewhere on this board is a little essay which says that as one cannot possibly have enuf guns, it follows that too many is not enuf. Amusing but wrong. One can never handle, shoot, examine, or lust after too many guns but one can sure own too many. I have 28 longarms in a 16 gun safe. Then there are those that hotrack in cases (case to gun ratio about 1:3)and the rest play Pop goes the Weasel for closet space and dusty corners.

Since I decided 12 months ago to downsize my accumulation, I am up by four new additions. Working well, eh?
