I stopped by the local gun emporium today and saw two old doubles on the used rack that I am not familiar with. I thought maybe someone here might know who made them. The first was a Delphia Arms 12 ga. that was stamped Peerless Steel on top of the right barrel and Made by Experts on top of the left. It was a boxlock gun with 28" barrels, tight, on face, perfect bores, and good stocks with semi-pistol grip and hard rubber buttplate. The asking price was $210.00 and the shop owner said he thought it was made by Crescent. I thought it looked a lot like a Hunter Arms Fulton.

The other gun was a Marshwood 12 ga. with 30" barrels and uncheckered non-original wood. It was also a boxlock, and looked less well finished than the Delphia. Strangely, it was priced a lot higher at $330.00. The owner also thought this one was made by Crescent too. Any thoughts on these? I was tempted to buy the Delphia Arms gun just because it seemed quite reasonably priced for any sound double.

The great bulk of the doubles made by H & D Foslsom Arms Co.'s factory in Norwich, Conn. (aka Crescent Fire Arms Co.) were sidelocks.

The Delphia Arms doubles I've seen are "trade branded" Hunter Arms Co. Fultons.

Are you sure it was Marshwood and not Marshwells?

Yes, definitely Marshwood. No other markings on the outside. Were the Delphia arms guns common? I don't recall ever seeing any before. Thanks to all for the replies.
