I've got a stock that fits a browning BSS but not sure which gauge. Did they make gauge specific frames or was it jsut one frame size for both gauges? I have tried looking on web for frame dimensions and had no luck. If someone knows or has a BSS and could measure the stock dimensions near the action, it would be of great help to me.
Thanks,
Bearpaw

12 and 20 on their own frames. If it's huge at the wrist, unwieldy and would swing like a post, it's a 12.

Someone here was looking for a stock for a BSS. If you plan to sell it, post it in the guns for sale section.
I'll measure both, a 12 and 20 ga BSS across the stock cheeks this evening if you haven't gotten the information before that.

"Old Bore" was looking for BSS wood, but he wanted both stock and forend. I'm still looking for a set of 26" BSS 12 ga barrels, preferably with f/e. http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbt...4319#Post264319

It is a sporter (english) stock, grade II. It is not "like a 2X4" but I'm not sure. Thanks for your help. i am still not sure. The dimensions are 1.610 across the face and 1.98 tall at the face. The mystery continues.

You've got a Grade II stock? That's pretty unusual. I'm fairly certain there were even fewer Grade II's made than BSS Sidelocks, and prices tend to be pretty outrageous. A lot of people have never even seen a Grade II. Silver receiver with game scene engraving and fancier wood, but otherwise the same gun as a standard BSS boxlock.

If it's for a 20ga, I may be interested.

As a matter of fact, I just recently bought an unfired one and yes, the prices are steep. But, I hunted quail and chukkar with it in Oklahoma and it was worth it!! It handles like an absolute dream. Additionally, after returning to the same store where I bought the 20 Grade II Sporter, I stumbled across a like-new 12 gauge BSS Sidelock - and bought it. Needless to say,I am quite happy with that pair of Brownings!! By the way while on this subject, has anyone ever seen a Browning fitted case for two SxS's?? I got a fitted Browning luggage case with the 12, but was wondering if it was ever supplied in a two gun edition.

Sporter - 4 3/4" Perry, don't get me wrong, I loves the BSS's and I even owned a 20 gauge Grade II but am I alone in finding the grade II engraving a little cartoonish?

Am I alone in finding the grade II engraving a little cartoonish? No, but no worse than the Parker flying turnips. I'd still buy a Grade II at the right price, but I don't really expect to see one at the right price.
