I would pattern it first, before I made any decisions on the forcing cones or the chokes. If you want to modify it afterwards you will need the opinion of a Good Gunsmith as to if it is safe to relieve the forcing cones. Opening up the chokes may make it more suited to your purposes.
Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.

rgh25, FYI - Both 2 1/2" 12 ga regular and spreader loads are readily available from: Polywad, Inc. http://www.polywad.com/index.htmland RST - Classic Shotshell Co. Inc. http://www.rstshells.com/With this I would leave the original chokes as is but this is just my personal opinion. Regards, Buchseman

Thanks for all the information. I will leave things as is for now and see about making some loads and go from there. I hate to modify the older guns if they can be used as is and components are available.

Just use it as-is. You've got 2 3/4" chambers. Opening forcing cones would have had to be done on every shotgun made before the 60's if the then new plastic wad ammo didn't perform in them or was dangerous.
I'd take it easy on the loads only because that's what I do with any older gun. I have no doubt the shotgun can handle most over the counter commercial loads but why subject the gun, stock and you to the punishment. Plenty of 1200fps loads and reload recipes around that keep the pressures down.
If the Fuller Bros chokes aren't to your liking, take those out perhaps. Personally I like them that way. Nice for skeet.
Nice looking shotgun. Some good buys still yet around in German & Austrian SxS's

Good thread, I have the same questions and inclination to do the forcing cones in a Simson Special 16ga that I picked up. Nice little SxS, .662 bore with .020 constriction in both tubes. Its just that the forcing cones look rough and seem to accumulate crud .. Ive yet to hit the pattern board, it hits well from the 20yd trap line, so I suppose I should be happy.
