A month or so ago, I recieved my CSM .410 barrels for the 00 frame 28ga Repro.

I took them and the gun out to Les Pitman right away and had him fit them. I picked it up lastnight. He did a really nice job of fitting them. I gotta say I'm very pleased with both Les and CSM on the way they fit.

The gun was a 28", single barrel, SST, straight stock, splinter, from Jaqua's. It was 5 lbs 10 oz in 28ga trim. With the 28" .410 CSM barrels, it's 6 lbs 8 oz. and balances about at the forward edge of the hinge pin screwhead. The gun swings nicely and should handle very good when shooting. (I'm not quite as old as AmarilloMike, so I can probably tote the extra weight around)

I'm not thrilled with the weight, wish it was at least a 1/4-1/2 lb lighter, but whether or not I like the gun, will depend on how I shoot it. If I like the gun, I'll fit the extra forend iron I have and make a small BTFE for it.

I ordered the barrels a couple years ago, placed my deposit and waited, reading all the naysayer posts about CSM ever delivering the barrels. Although, the CSM offering was for M/IC choking, when I ordered, I specified I would like the chokes at full/full. Carol said she'd write it down, but could guarantee it, since the offering was different. They came with .393 at the muzzles. I haven't put a bore gauge in it yet to see what the bores are, but it appears they are likely .017 or greater choking, which is about full choke in .410. So, I'm happy with the choking. It should make for a good dove/pheasant/chukar setup.

Concerning the weight issue, weren�t most 410�s built on the larger frames thus adding a lot of unneeded weight to the shotgun? I usually see that both the 28 gauge and the 410 are built on the larger 20 gauge frames. But then again maybe I�m mistaken concerning the Parker repros.

I'll have to defer to others with more knowledge on the Repro .410s. I've seen only multi gauge sets of 28g/.410 on 00 frames (28ga frame). I have read threads on the Parker forum about .410 only Repro's, but don't know if they were 000 or 0000 framed guns.

When you look down the CSM .410 barrels, you can detect the blended tapers, much like many other barrels in other gauges. While most guns have two tapers and then the straight (constant o.d.) section, these .410 barrels have three tapers and then the straight section. Personally, I think they could/should have tapered them down more quickly and shaved another 1/4 lb off.

I know you're mostly a quail man, but a 6 1/2# .410 might be great on doves. My little one is so light it's just all over the place. I can see where a little extra weight would be good on doves, where you don't have to carry it for several miles in the hills.

Let us know how it handles on clays, and doves..........

Is there any stamping on the barrels or is it underneath? Does CSM still offer these barrels?

They look great.
I don't want too heavy a gun, but with that weight, if they swing like I imagine they will, I bet you really like it.
A bit on the heavy "carry" side, but I bet is a dove shootin' machine.
28 inch barrels; My, I am envious, sitting here with a 28ga repro straight stock single trigger gun.

Adding that much weight to the barrels, depending on how it's distributed--and obviously, a lot of it will be in the chamber area to make .410 barrels fit a 28ga frame--could change the balance significantly. Does it now balance farther forward with the .410 barrels than it does with the 28's?
