OK, so I went out hunting today, and before going into the bush to retrieve a bird, I leaned my gun against my truck, it then fell and dented the top rib and the barrel a bit. My gunsmith said he can fix it. can something like this be fixed and made to somewhat dissapear? There is no crease in the barrel, it really only dented ever so slightly, and the rib only dented a bit too.
Any thoughts.
The good news is we bagged our limit.

Brownell's sells a rib straightening tool for about $30, I think. The barrel dent can be fixed also. If nothing shows inside the bore, no repair has to be done. ahappy that you had a good shoot in spite of the bad luck. JL

Sorry your gun was damaged, even happier no one was injured. I hope you don't mind if I take this opportunity to stress that Hunter Education and other firearms safety classes teach that leaning of firearms against vehicles in particular, and insecure rests in general, is an unsafe practice. Perhaps we all need to review what we learned long ago in regard to gun handling safety as it is all too easy to get a little lax. I just spent a 13 hour day conducting the field day activities for a 250 student Hunter Education class and I guess I am just a bit over sensitive to the issues of the day.

I don't think so Jerry and thanks for the reminder.

We don't doubt the gun was unloaded. I think the doubt is that a firearm, especially a good double, should ever rest against a vehicle. A friend has a truck with a rack designed just for that, and my guns STILL never go near it. Glad the shooting was good, and nobody was hurt. 2 out of 3 isn't bad. Best, Ted

Jerry:
250 student Hunter Education class is huge. WHen I taught it was maxed at 15 or 20 students per class.
congratulations on learning the next generation the safe way!!!
