Don't know about their quality personally, but there do seem to be a considerable number of used ones, (in relation to their production numbers), on sale at any one point in time.
Don't know if quality is the issue causing this or some other factor.
I do know that I've lusted after a Castore Hammer Gun for some considerable time.

I heard from a few sources that Beretta had their SO series O/Us by Famars/A&S for a long time.Could anyone confirm that? Thank you.

I agree, the guns are wonderful and the engraving is breathtaking, but I do have to question the subject of the engraving....dragonflys, frogs etc. The owner must have been a Zoologist.

I have also heard that - but I don't believe its correct. There may have been a time when some work was done by A&S, possibly on the SO9 or SO10 but I understand SO5, SO6 are (and have always been I think) 'in house' in a 'custom shop'.

A & S are out of business at present I believe.

Yes, FAMAR's built the SO guns until recently.

I think they are fabulous guns and some of the finest to come out of Italy.

I own a bespoke, 20 bore, Avantis model, with engraving that took 250 hours to execute,(sorry I don't have photo's on this current computer I am using). This was double the engraving time Cristina thought it would take to execute my requested engraving pattern yet they did not charge any extra for it. I took delivery of it in 2011 and it exceeded my expectations. I shoot it frequently and have had no problems at all, with the exception that initially the fore end was difficult to remove which was easily remedied by my gunsmith.

I will say that it took much longer to deliver than the time quoted but the end product made the wait well worth it.

Yes, I believe JohnfromUK is right. I should have said that they built all the SO 9 guns, which was the best gun Beretta marketed at the time. I don't believe they ever built any SO 10 models.

Hey JayCee
I have a friend just like you.
I had a beautiful Famars hammer gun in 12ga that I sent to Briley for 28 ga tubes. It came back and the left bbl fired occasionally. I handed the gun to Chuck Webb who summoned the tube maker and told him to make a new tube which he did not, but he did shorten the firing pins! Now even 12 ga shells would not fire consistently. While I was waiting for new pins my friend
offered to buy the gun. He got a really good price. He then gave the gun to Bill Gillett, an ancient gunsmith. Thirty minutes later the gun was working.Bill found that the left lock had been taken apart and reassembled incorrectly.

My friend and I hunt quail and he always brings the Famars which is why I say you and he are alike.
