Yep. Used to be John Graham & Co., Changed their name to Grahams of Inverness, I think last year. Nice shop, good people, lots of common man stuff. Established 1857 as a maker. Sort of kitty corner down from the castle. Try the bakery a few doors down for the meat pies for lunch...

I think that's the formula: go to pub and find out about the shooting, meat pies and shops. The Scots are among the most accommodating of shooters.

Bill,

Guns manufactured in Scotland will all be high end products, not repetition machined for the mass market. They will therefore be "expensive." Guns sold in Scotland will be more or less typical of the rest of the UK, though in country districts they tend to be somewhat lower in price, at least in the second hand market.

Virtually all small towns in Scotland will have a gun shop of some sorts even if it's just an adjunct to the angling shop. You'll be able to buy cartridges and everyday guns. Here is a link to those non existent (some 50 odd, there will be more) GUN SHOPS

Across the UK shotguns can only be lawfully held on a Shotgun Certificate; there is no such thing as a special permit for hunting, farming, clay shooting or vermin control. You buy the Certificate, then the guns, record your purchases, and go on your way.

Probably the most commonly seen gun in Scotland is a Beretta O/U, just the same as everywhere else.

The advice to start enquiries in the village pub is the best way to go. You may not find the answers to your questions, but you will certainly be entertained.

Asking a passing Scot if he's common may not have the outcome you or your son anticipate. The reply could well be uncommonly warm.

Eug

The current "Scottish Government" wants to ban air guns .Wont be long before they start on shotguns and rifles . After all what possible justification can there be for a man who lives in a city owning a gun for.
Answers on a postcard to the Scottish Parliament .

hello gunman,
the devolved scottish parliament may have some powers re air weapons but firearms and shotguns are still under westminster jurisdiction.does that make their future any safer?this is not an appropriate thread or indeed forum, for political debate so i shall finish at that.
if you have a serious question re shooting in scotland i shall be only too glad to help.
cheers
mrwmartin

I have travelled to the USA on numerous occassions and it seems that there are no McDonalds in the USA and the common man does not eat McDonalds.
Perhaps I should go to Scotland to see if there are any McDonalds there.
Bloody Idiot.

Thanks for info guys. My son did not find anymore info out as I was away and did not see info posted here. He was told by a man in the a store he was in there were none and did not inquire any further. He did have a very good time and enjoyed his stay. He was there researching his ancestry. He was in Edinborough when he inquired. From the post above this one seems as though they have some curmudgeons also. smile

Curmudgeon! Umm that's a new one, wife will like that, she thinks I'm a miserable old bugger.
But life's funny isn't it? I never saw any cowboys in New York, nor Indians, when I come to think about it.
