I'm responding in the double rifle thread so as not to mess up the scope mount theme here ...

While I was in the vault and in the gun safe I dug out my drilling to measure the scope bases. Here's a little more info I either forgot or didn't know. The reciver is marked on the bottom, in script "Dural" and "Hubertus" "Suhl"

The barrels are marked with "Inman Meffert" on the right barrel between the bases and about half way up the barrels on the rib are marked "Rudolf Gronau, Braunschweig". On the side of the barrels at both breeches are the words "FLUSSTAHL KRUPP ESSEN" encircling what appears to be crossed cannon barrels. Obviously Fluid Steel, by Krupp but the Essen I'm ignorant of.

I looked in my one and only Imman Meffert "Hubertus" catalog and don't have anything on the model of your drilling. Perhaps Raimey or Axel can tell you such. I have a Dural frame Meffert Vierling project that I have to get finished. It had an un-repairable broken stock so I am in the process of making another. The old stock has been duplicated and now it's on to the fitting stage.

I have way too many projects.

I'd like to see that Vierling, now and when it's finished!

Back in the day, I owned a Dural-receivered Hubertus vierling with the most unique claw bases I've ever seen. This was about 1970 and unfortunately I have no photos.

My vierling had the 5.6x35/R barrel on top, then 2 16s side-by-side, then the 8x57JR barrel underneath. Some previous owner had tried to chamber a 22 Hornet and of course it wouldn't go, so he forced it! It was almost totally FUBARed, I was young & dumb and not experienced enough to work on it, so I traded it.

Looked almost exactly like a typical drilling at first glance but it had about 1/4" greater action depth than my Sauer drilling. $1000 in 1970.....
Regards, Joe

Sharps--you were wise to find ammo that shoots to the sights. I think it is almost always a mistake to try to alter the iron sights on a drilling, unless a dovetailed front sight (taller or shorter) can be driven out. You will be surprised how hand-loading can get it regulated, and is often the only way to go if you insist on a particular premium performance bullet. Remember to arrive at a "cold barrel zero" and you will be good to go. I made a lazered 250 yd. shot on a whitetail this season with an 8x57 drilling. (scoped) Good luck on the project! Steve

Thank you steve. I received a Phd. in reloading to the sights with my German double rifle. Great fun, certainly educational and sometimes as frustrating as H E double hockey sticks....but I got it done!!!

Good shot on that whitetail....with an equally good ol' cartridge.

Whoops--just saw your post on the double gun section. I am not real familiar with the 43 cal., but it sounds like you got it down pat. Now I really have to get Grahme Wright's book. Waidmansheil! Steve

I'll certainly give Wright's book a hearty recommendation.

Yep, Wright's book is a must have for any handloader; especially for anyone working with obsolete cartridges.
