If I had a Picasso and it was good for the paint to keep it upside down most of the time I still wouldn't do it. At least I'd try not to.

I guess I look at it as I am a very temporary caretaker of the fine doubles in my possession. The people that will inherit my guns will appreciate the fact that I took simple, reasonable steps to prevent unnecessary damage to them. I've owned too many guns where I wish the owners practiced those simple preventions 100 years ago, but in fairness they didn't know what we do now. Our nice guns will be around much longer than any of us.

Butt down is how God meant for it to be. It's in the Scriptures. Butt up is anal renentive.

Butt up catches my attention--even at my age.... lot purtier to look at butts than barrels. (No kids in house).

That's a very attractive display stand Joe. Did you build it yourself?

No, Jim, a gentleman from Virginia (I think) made it. He's the one that came up with the design (I cannot recall his name--too many years ago). I had two made in walnut and had them shipped unfinished. I sanded, stained and finished them to go with the furniture in another room. I believe similar stands can be bought from Jeff's Outfitters, etc.

Joe,

That stand is outstanding, but I do wonder if it might be a bit top heavy?

Cheers,
David

The butt end of a gun is heavier and therefore guns began and have been stored with the heavy butt end down since guns were made because it is the easiest and the safest in regard to falling over...(especially for a gun shop)........but it is not the best for the gun's longevity IMO.....

Gravity rules......

Someone mentioned that the cleaning fluids will merely run down into the forearm instead of the butt stock, not true and that person does not understand gravity if he looks at the angles at which these muzzle down guns sit....!....Take a look at Joe's nice gun rack above for example.........

We've had multiple discussions on other threads since this particular thread was started, about how to remove oil or solvents or whatever from the heads (punky wood) of double gun stocks caused directly by butt down storage......an ounce of prevention is worth a lot if your guns are keepers IMO........
