It looks to be one of his field model guns. I am guessing by the name on the gun, it is some time around 1900, but can not be sure.
1 more picture. The receiver with the barrels removed showing the proof marks. That will help date it. Once dated, I may be able to tell you the model.

Is it really Damascus? I can't seem to see the pattern. Besided, Pieper was among the pioners and active proponents of fluid steel barrels, weren't they?

Is it really Damascus? I can't seem to see the pattern. Besided, Pieper was among the pioners and active proponents of fluid steel barrels, weren't they? It is damascus. The barrels have been blackened, which was not uncommon. Pieper actually held a very unique patent for making damascus. He had a shop in Nessonvaux, "The Brazil Works" dedicated to it. The shop closed after WWI.  The remnants of it were purchased by Delcour-DuPont. Delcour-DuPont continued producing damascus until 1937-1938.  Pete

Yes it is, right on the top between the 2 barrels it says " laminated steel".. When I get back home I'll get that other image Pete. Thanks.

Pete, I think what Pete's looking for is images from the barrels flats and the water table such as below.  Barrels flats  Water table However, by all means include a photo from the top rib if it has any engraving on it. Steve

Thanks. Talk about a lack of proof marks!! IF that is an inspector's Crown over X, then there is a possible explanation.
That would be the mark of Alfred Reignier who was controller from 1937-1964. I am guessing here, but if this gun was proofed in 1938, they may not have had time to finish applying the rest of the proof marks because of invasion.
So, having gone that far out on a limb, I would guess it was proofed in '38.
I will search my references for a model #.
