Hammer, I slipped up - The covers DO have those little brass handles on the covers.
Most of my cases are for English BP percussion guns and rifles. The Purdey 16 bore shotgun actually has one cover that's wood and goes the length of the width on the end (dja follow that?). It covers wads and loading materials. The rest are green felt.
I was wondering if you have to go back farther in time - This Purdey, for instance is from 1860. But then I checked my William Evans from the 1890's and it has 2 compartments covered. Red felt and brass doo-dad knobs.
I can't be the only guy here who has English cases with compartment covers! C'mon everybody, 'fess up!
