I am Looking for some 8 bore reloading Data.
Low pressure loads, Black powder,
Has anyone loaded Pyrodex in a plastic case?
Or low pressure progressive nitro loads?
I have some Federal industrial hulls roll crimper and shot wads.
I had a resizing Die made that sizes them down to fit in the chamber of my 8 bore Enos James ,Hammer-Gun. The gun is in good shape and Gunter Phrommer just replaced the top lever spring in it. Any data appreciated before I end up building my own pressure gun..

I reload for the 8 bore paradox and have reloaded for 8 bore rifle. What are the specs on your 8? Tom Armbrust has a book on 4 and 8 bore shot loads and provides completely loaded shells.I believe the book is still available at Precision Reloading or Ballistics Products. Here is a web site also:

www.armbrust.acf2.org

I would like to get a dedicated 8 bore shotgun someday.

From my 2004 Dixie Gun Works catalogue
This is black powder muzzleloading service load from the Birmingham Proof House dated February 1896

8 Gauge - 135 grains or 4-15/16 drams powder and 1-13/16 ounces of shot
10 gauge - 109 grains or 4 drams powder and 1-1/2 ounces of shot

from another chart in the same book, (source not given, but it compares well with the 8 gauge and 10 gauge ML loads above)

10 gauge 2-3/4" chamber - 109 grains FFg powder and 1-1/2 ounces of shot = muzzle velocity of 1040 FPS
10 gauge 3" chamber - 123 grains FFg powder and 1-3/4 ounces of shot = muzzle velocity of 1060 FPS

Not perfect but I think there's enough data to extrapolate what a 8 gauge shotgun shell load should be.

I hope this information is useful.

Steve

Need to get Tom's book as there are nitro loads he has tested for the 8 gauge. 4 drams seems pretty light for an 8 gauge load but I suppose it depends on the individual gun. I use 10 drams in my Holland but it is a 15lb gun.
