Since everyone around the camp fire seems to be yacking about what they like or dislike about our beloved doubles, I'm wondering how y'all feel about covers for the little compartments in a motor case.

I've included a photo for reference, from an amazing restore that Huey did on an H&H.

I absolutely love how it cleans up the whole kit, but I was shooting with a guy in January who said cases didn't originally have covers like that, and they shouldn't have now.

Your thoughts?

Very nice!

Here's another nice option. This is a custom case lid I painted a few years ago, and it offers a degree of personalization like nothing else. Birds, dogs, hunts/hunters or naked ladies, if you can imagine it, it can be done.

Hammer Guy, the case is cool, but looks more like a French layout. Most English cases I have seen would have a smaller interior for a single gun with one set of barrels. I am sure that is why you have room for multiple lids in the case. I do like its look.

Money talks and case makers would make anything that you wanted then and still today. Cases were often sold or provided by gun makers who tried to just get by with a nice solid basic case. If a buyer wanted covers they would have provided them. If you like them then do not worry what others think.

To be clear, this isn't my gun/case, just a sample I pulled from they Huey website. If it were mine, you'd see a pillow in the background, because I'd be sleeping with it. smile

The case definately has that 'french fit' concept going on, but the English cases I have, that are not toe-under, all have a few spaces here-and-there that I stuff various implements in. I've always thought they'd look better and be more secure with lids on the various compartments.

I love the idea of unique art on the covers! I don't know if I could have a chukar taunting me every time I open the case though. Evil little bird..... 8)

Mark, I can't get together with the signature on the Chukar picture. Clue us in. By the way, can we see the naked ladies?

Not sure what you mean? It's my standard signature I use on my paintings.

I'll have the naked ladies done in a couple months for a client on his trap gun. Should be fun. grin
