Canvasback, how deep of what do you intend to tread? I wear & have worn all types of boots & waders, with the now defunct Lewis Creek Kevlar boot being a favorite. When my supply of those ran out I turned to Hunter and I'm sure these can be found on the discount market. If your highwater mark is less that 9", I'd strongly suggest Gokey's Wetlander and if you require an aggressive sole, a Cordura version is available. If higher you could always order Russell's Joof(14") and pair it with the sole of your choice, being a bespoken set of brogues?? But the Gokey & Russells are lace-up boots. Besides finding the Hunter on the discount market, I would suggest the Muck boot, a favorite of my little Jägers. The adult version has a very flexible top and can be rolled down when the temps rise.

Kind Regards,

Just to complicate your decision process a bit more.... I have leather lined Chameau's and they are a fine rubber boot - but are still a rubber boot. Two years ago I splurged on a pair of Dubarry Galway boots (dark brown version). They are a revelation. They weigh absolutely nothing, don't puncture, and are completely water-proof. I have used them in damp Georgia fields for quail, Sask while goose hunting, and our shoots here in VA. Simply a fabulous design and in the same price range as the Chameau.

Thanks Joe for the Dubarry Galway reminder as I too have a pair and they are as you state.

I have had my Chasseurs for nearly 20 years and love them. Have worn them in all types of terrain with no problems and no cuts or tears from barbed wire, rocks, etc. My wife thought I had lost my mind when I bought her a pair about 15 years ago....now she wouldn't be without them!

I've been pretty happy with my "Muck" boots for a couple of years and if I rip a hole in them, which I'm sure I will do eventually, it won't be that big a deal.

Thanks all for the various feedback. I have different pairs of hunting boots and shoes as no doubt is true for most of us. Leather uppers, nylon uppers, Gore-tex etc. In fact I am in the shoe business myself.

I have had a pair of high quality Tretorn rubber boots for about 20 years that I found I just gravitated more and more to. Used them a lot for just walking the dog as well.. However they are now done.

It is the leather lining (comfort) and the side zipper that drew me to the Chasseur boot from Le Chameau. I have a very high instep which makes getting a good fit for extensive walking AND being able to remove the boot sometimes difficult. That's why I'm wary of the neoprene lined boots. A little moisture and they are never coming off!

As usual in Canada selection is more limited than south of the border and I don't buy footwear without being able to try it on. I have not seen Aigle here.

Crap!! With the general consensus I am hearing, I guess I'm buying a $500 (taxes in) pair of rubber boots. Thanks again.

If you're trying them on, maybe look at Muck boots as was mentioned above. Warm, tough and waterproof might be an option if image isn't absolutely needed.
