I bought a very nice 16 ga FW Field last year for 650 and it swings perfectly, 30" barrels but choked full/full.

Elsies seem often to have single triggers, something I don't personally favour.

Worth waiting for a good one because they are well built and reliable.

"On "outward appearance" standard pre '13 Hunter Arms guns had split upper tangs, bushed firing pins, double screw trigger guards, rib stamped signature line and POW grips etc....."

Doug, not all pre-13 "elsies" fit this description, many were one-piece tang, no bushings, single screw trigger guard, and the POW standard on lower grades, and option on higher grades.

Also your above description also carries into post-13 guns.

Yes, that is correct David.....

I have rebuilt some early 20 ga Smiths, circa 1907-09 guns that were actually early 'test beds' for the FW guns that came along later....

I had that information in my post above initially, but did not want to confuse the 'nit pickers'.......

Also, as you mentioned, Hunter did not just throw away all their forgings and parts after 1913....they completed what 'stock in hand' they had and kept on truckin'.....

Cheers,

Doug

Castings? Schmastings? parker used drop FORGED- NOT CAST- 1018 fm steel for its forged receiver blanks- and the guts and gusto inside were the same with the workhorse Trojan (pun intended) as with the graded Parkers- gauge for gauge and frame size for frame size.

The last Bill Ruger pioneered the "lost wax" investment casting process, although the Y series Winchester M12's had investment cast receivers instead of drop forged as did their predecessors.
