Depends on the wood and how it is finished. Some woods have tannins that could damage the muzzles, and almost all wood will absorb moisture from the air but probably not enough to cause a problem. You could eliminate any possible issues by using plastic, such as strips cut from a polyethylene kitchen cutting board or from a lumber substitute such as Azek Trim Board.
