I can't believe you've smeared this seller's name across the web with no more cause than the loose rib. I personally think you owe him a public apology right now!

Simpson's are definitely not crooks and have a long list of satisfied customers.

There are two issues here. The first issue is the 'As is'. That means that you take what you get and keep it. The second issue is how the piece is represented. Looking at the re-listing description, I would say that the description misrepresents the piece. The

"90% blue, very good bore, 28" barrel, Missing buttstock and trigger guard. Cocking indicators. Appears complete internally."

leaves one with a positive impression of the piece obtained by mentioning all the high points, but leaving out one of the low points that we know the seller is aware of. Either say nothing by way of description, or mention the missing major flaw along with the rest of the description. The key factor is, what kind of impression am I creating in the mind of the reader and is it relatively accurate? Personally, I could not post that description with integrity, and I have listed quite a few guns in my time. I would add the partially loose rib to the rest of the description and sleep well, knowing that any buyer will not be surprised when the shipment arrives.

I do not think one could question the seller's integrity the first time around ...... it is entirely likely that he was not aware of the partially loose rib. In fact, he is to be commended for taking it back. This second time around, however, definitely falls short, in my view, of what would constitute an honest listing. My conscience would prevent me from missing out that key piece of information when I knew about it. Either say nothing about condition, or include the known flaw with the rest of the description.

Hey! its a 200 dollar gun, not all there, good picture..There is no "Issue" here. Was the seller "aware" of the loose rib? They move a lot of guns, good and not so good . How much time are they going to spend on a bunch of parts that they describe "as is"...Buyer was lucky they took it back...

No dog in this fight, but I think the term "as is" doesn't fit well with internet sales. With in-person sales, there's an opportunity for inspection prior to purchase.

Hmmm, the seller relisted without mentioning the loose rib he at least now knows about. All that for $200 ?

I think if I were the original poster I'd change the title from "Crooked Seller", which is way too strong in this case to, "I don't like this seller".

I have dealt with Simpson's over the years. A simple phone call and they will pull the gun and answer all your questions.
They don't sell top end. A lot of their guns have been heavily used.

Some times they don't get the description 100%. They had a Pieper canard gun that they listed as a "volley gun to repel pirates". Even after I informed them of the mistake, the website was never corrected. Do I blame them? Not really, many business have a disconnect when it comes to their own websites.

I would not call that dishonest, just dumb.

Pete
