I do not want to bash simpson.I would like to see the description changed so the next sucker just doesn't waste more hard earned money on the USPS. I think Kirk D is spot on. They hit all of the positive notes, don't forget to mention the one major bad one.I was not expecting a pristine Merkel to fall out of the box. Homeless joe, can you put a little sugar on that. I am no Oscar Gaddy(wish I was). I was looking for a project and a beater.I have learned another good lesson. I will be more careful from now on. I was real happy with the Merkel and a Browning that were from the internet. I do want people to buy from them. I don't want them out of business. If the gun were relisted with mention of the ribs, I would feel like a real heel and be on my knees.I don't think at this point I owe them that.

I do not buy the "crooked" remark. The seller took an "as is" sale back, that defines not crooked to me. Internet sales are a gamble, I have gambled won and lost. As for not updating the description, it could be evil, but more likely is inefficient and or incompetent net skills
Simpson has a decent rep and they are after all dealing on the very low end of doubles.
I see every internet purchase as a gamble and as such gaining experience at the cost of shipping and FFL fees is actually cheap and useful learning.

I nominate this for the all time greatest edit in history.
At least the guy listens.

I second your nomination Shotgunjones. We talked about exchange before it went through. The people at simpson are very nice to deal with.I was and am prepared to deal with the item but the ribs are out of my league to fix. It would be too expensive to have someone else do them. This project had the potential to run way over budget and that's just what the rib problem did. For that amount of money I could have a nice merkel. I was looking for a project. I hated like hell to send this one back.I have wood, time,a shop and oh...... I'm married. It's not like they took a torch to it to add some case colors, like one seller did quite frequently. That is unforgivable. No I will not throw him under the bus either. That has already been done by others. Thanks to all that replied on this one.

CPA is correct. The legal and practical concept of an "as is" sales clause only means that there are no warranties--you take the risk of a hidden defect. It is not, however, a license to mislead the buyer with misrepresentations when there are material known defects that are not obvious from the photos. I sometimes sell older guns "as is", but I also disclose all known problems or hidden defects. The law does not permit one to make material misrepresentations and then hide behind an "as is" sales clause. That being said, if I bought a gun that was in pieces, I'm not sure that a loose rib would have bothered or surprised me.
