After cleaning and wiping down my guns I use - and have for over 40 years now - spray silicon. Depending upon where I happen to be when final cleaning I either spray it directly on and wipe down or liberally on a cloth and wipe with it. During this final storing process I wear cotton gloves of the type seen used by drill team, etc (at least on the hand I handle the guns with) and have yet to leave any finger prints on my guns. The silicon has worked well for me for many years now and I use it on metal and wood, oil finished or coated wood. Until I see my guns rust or gum up I guess I will just continue to use it. Of course I learned long ago to buy it at Pep Boys rather than a gun store, thus spending about half the price of that from gun stores - for precisely the same thing in either can!!
