F.W.Harrold was a Birmingham merchant and Ironmonger. Records show that his business exported a wide variety of goods, for example guns, jewellery etc.
During the Victorian era Birmingham was known as "the work place of the world," as a result Birmingham based Merchants prospered.
A well respected merchant of the era was Samuel Buckley; who due to his position of Justice of the Peace, was appointed by the city circa 1868 to serve as a Guardian of the Birmingham Proof House. Guns bearing the name ;Samuel Buckley are some times seen in North American gun shows and listed in auctions. Despite some published reports Samuel was not a gun maker but a Merchant with obvious contacts within the trade.
