I once waxed an early Citori field gun with oil finished wood, and the wax got very gummy in the early dove season heat and humidity. I used Johnson's in that case, but it turned me off to waxing hunting guns in this climate.

I use the Renaissance Micro-Crystalline wax and this give the best results.Many London Museum use it and not only for guns.
I am sure it is available in the U.S.

a light rubbing with Trewax and then wiping off goes on my stocks and the metal as well. Bill Phifer, who owns the greatest collection of custom shop era Winchester 21's uses Trewax to preserve those beautiful guns, many of which are Grand American grades.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit this but I used Kiwi shoe polish (brown) on my RBL. On the back of the can it has other uses: An excellent stain for unfinished wood; a fine wax polish for furniture, hardwood floors, and other wood surfaces. Figured what the hell. Results were less than stellar. You may be a redneck if...

Depends on what kind of finish you have. I would never use wax on an London oil finished stock.
Model 21 varnish such as Pfifer's guns are a different story. Supposedly Bill has never put his guns together, what the hell is he doing fiddling around waxing them?

I use CSM's Renaissance wax on the wood. I have only used the automotive wax (Collinite) on the barrels and other metal. I agree about not getting oil in the wood.

I know of two guns, one a marble-cake french walnut stock, and one a light colored juglans regia on a drilling that were darkened beyond belief by "occasional" re-oiling...and they were so beautiful to begin with!

Clif,
I don't know.........if I had those guns they would be put together and some of them shot. It is my understanding he wants the entire collection to be sold; not individual guns. If only I was an oil billionaire.

Saphir Médaille d'Or Pâte de Luxe is an all-natural wax polish based on beeswax, turpentine, and carnauba, with six other nutrient waxes. This turpentine base is a natural by-product of pine trees, unlike the petroleum bases found in ordinary waxes.
