Hi all, say just a quick question. For those of you who own a Skeets bore gauge (the dail type not the digital) how accurate is it?

It is as accurate as the setting ring that you use.

It's as accurate as I need such a gauge to be. And you don't even have to use the setting rings to merely measure choke in most instances... just watch the dial and note how many thou the constriction is as you pull the gauge out.

Be careful you don't get the balls all schwetty as they have a tendency to stick occasionally. And Kensal is correct that the difference bore to choke doesn't require zeroing to .700" ring or what have you. I'd prefer a Stan Baker all gauge set but I'd also like to have a condo at the beach and a 125' yacht with crew and waitstaff.

I bought one years ago on eBay for $15.00. It was in a homemade wooden case and looked good. Trouble is, someone took it apart and put it back wrong, the had the spring on the wrong side. I fiddled with it and got it to work and it will give you re-peatable readings.
I called them and wanted a ten gage head, the fellow told me to adjust the phenolic tube farther down to allow the balls to travel farther. It still isn't enough for .775 or larger for earlier 10 ga bores.
For the money they are good, if I had the money I would get the 100 Straight with the 4 heads for $500.00

Mine has done me a good job for several years. Since it is not used constantly I re-zero with the setting ring every use. Only takes a few seconds.

Of course you zero it every use. Another tip is to make sure the shaft runs free. After fifteen years or so, I had to put a drop or two of thin oil on the micrometer shaft. The balls stick a bit, but I'm not sure I should oil them.

I tested one against Galazans and could detect no discernible difference in measurement.
