was looking at an older lefever yesterday where a portion of the bottom tang was spring loaded and closed when you mounted the gun. only had a few seconds to look at it. was that a hand safety or what

Sounds like you saw a conversion of some type with a grip safety. Do you have any more information or pictures ?

going to get a hold of the guy. I looked at quite few guns in a very short time it could have beeb an l.c. smith cause there were some there does that help any?

Sure looks like a grip safety to me. I don't see one on the top tang though the photo is a bit fuzzy.

Drew I can,t contact the guy with all the guns until Tuesday. Were these grips common on L.C.Smiths or were they a conversion

Wish that I knew more frown That image was harvested from a small sale in the NE about 2 years ago, and is the only example of a grip safety on a Smith that I've seen.
