It is actually chrome plated and very thin. I have had two of my MUzzleloader bores "hard" chrome plated. HOWEVER, the company that did it has disappeared. Anyone know who does it now?. The previous company was Marker Machine Co. in Illinois.

On tooling, .00005" is not uncommon for hardchrome.

Obviously the "layering" I was referring to is the standard copper/nickle/chrome that sparkles. I recall seeing electron micrographs that show the little chromies snuggled right down in between the components of the steelies. A couple molecules thick is no problem and the .00005" that ChuckH quotes is pretty heavy duty.

Really, no big deal. Just seems a couple molecules would be quite a bit smaller than five decimal places in inches. It doesn't seem like a two molecule layer would appreciably harden the inside of a shotgun barrel. That's what I thought was one of the considerations with fitting the choke tubes.

I'm guessing what is in a Beretta barrel is as thick or thicker than what is used on tooling. Maybe a few tenthousandths.
