28" barrel 20 ga straight grip very desirable, prolly at the price though it will be hard to break even on the gun if you were to sell it down the line.
But, as a purist, this is a Winchester made gun with great attributes, you could sink another 5 grand into it and still be 8 grand less than Tony wants for a new one. I'd rather have this gun

Looks like that gun was used to beat off Zombies. The fore end is cracked in three different directions. Wish he had used a 870 instead.

Ah... A Model 21 that has actually been out in the field. There is a lot of very thin wood in a Model 21 20-gauge beavertail. You get much figure in the wood and cracks are inevitable. Also, Winchester made some improvements to their Model 21 forearms over the years. That being a pre-WW-II gun it very likely has the earliest style beavertail.

For some reason you can have a totally beat to crap 21 and it is worth pumping tons of cash into it, even though you wont break even, but if you have any other sxs you guys are ridiculing us for putting money into them. I understand brand loyalty, but come on. They are not the end all be all of sxs. They are nice enough in their own right but like any gun, once it is beat to crap that is exactly what it is.

Mr. burns, my opinion is that you are somewhat misinformed about 21s. Send my all the "beat to crap" 21s you want.
The gun in question here is far from being "beat to crap".

To fix it right mechanically $1500-1800 tops (dents raised, ejector fixed and hinge pin to put on face) to put it right and it will go on shooting for another 80 years. As much as I love my Purdeys and Boss's, I've always had a love for Model 21's, I would not hesitate to take this gun to Argentina and put 800-1000 shells through it a day. My dainty English guns would have a heart attack. M21 12's can be clubs, but not 20's---great guns.

4500 + 1500 on the low side still puts you at 6,000 for a gun that mechanically may be good but what about the wood issues and the bluing on the barrels. You would still need to blue it after raising dents and the forearm essentaily needs to be replaced or have extensive repair. So by the time you get it looking like something more than a boat paddle you have 7000 to 8000 in a refinished gun which knocks the hell out of any collector value and you end up with an over priced shooter.

I'm surprised no one has yet made any comment about the seller. I have heard good things about JtD and this auction is a good example of why.
How often do you see someone honestly describe a gun, and actually go out of his way to point out flaws with arrows and clear pics?

I can't say I don't agree with you as far as collectible value when done, but something decent nowadays thats real is 9-10k anyways, and after you are done with this one its still 10k less than a Tony M21 who's collectible value is basically zip relative to its original price. Its still a Winchester 21 albeit repaired, thats good enough for a lot of people. The devil in me says it gets bought and turned into a Pigeon grade with "no record" from Cody

It seems to me that vintage Win Model 21's when 'redone' right, as Winchester would have done, don't take the huge hit in value that many other guns do.
Socialism is almost the worst.
