Hmmm...a fixer-upper. I had a 20 ga skeet come off face. Big deal. Rotate hinge pin or install new bolt. Tony set it right for $200 some years back. I shoot it alot, great grouse/WC gun.

I just saw a Model 21, 12 gauge, go for $4,300. in what I would call NRA good and it was on face with no barrel dents.
I do not understand how one with dents that can be seen inside the barrel and off face can be so graded or the grading believed, that it would bring nearly $4,600.00

There is not one thing about that 21 that can't be put right, even using the same forearm wood. If it's off face, it can't be by much, and as said, a very easy fix. With the level of skill in the recondition and restoration field, it would be a piece of cake.

They do go off face. Winchester made hinge pins in progressively larger sizes to compensate for that. The pin can also be rotated, which might take up minor looseness. I'd negotiate, but a 20ga Model 21 is a desirable gun to a lot of people. I'd certainly hope for a lower price, but this one could be put right without breaking the bank.

One thing for sure, a Winchester with no reserve and a .01 starting price gets a lot of attention regardless of condition.
Probably someone decided to shoot the hottest steel loads they could find out of her.
