Bill, I'm sure at one point in time, the gun was probably worth more with the Atlas barrels. All this safe shooting of damascus barreled guns has pretty well ruined the damascus market.

In the late 60s a firm in Florida began offering re-barrel service. They had the bbls built by one of the Bernadellies in Italy. They would either build a set from scratch or strip your old bbls & use the parts, such as ribs, lugs etc. I had a set built for an FE Lefever from scratch, still have them as well as the original damascus ones. At that time I was just on the brink of deciding I could actually shoot the damascus. I already had most of the facts concerning their use, but with everything one read from "ALL the Experts" it took some to make the step. These bbls were made of Boehler Steel & bear Italian proofs, not that that really matters to me. Turn around ran a lot longer than they had stated, but did receive an explanation from them. They stated that some changes in custom laws required a Layover of some time & consequently due to this they were discontinuing the service as soon as they got back all the guns they had in Italy. I had been promised a turn around of 2-3 months but it ended up closer to 9 months. They finally came in late 1970. The firm name in Fla had Knight in it, but don't recall the actual name now. I would not say the quality of fit was as good as the original Lefever bbls but was quite good for the money. Don't recall exactly but was around $150.00. The reason I chose them over Atlas was my gun was neither a Parker nor an L C Smith.

I think the name was "Harden and Knight" but going from memory here. Thanks to all for the responses and I am surprised that it might be possible to actually have it done here in the states.I am steeling myself for the sticker shock...

RHD just has to decide if real Rem/Parker barrels with all the mfr markings and characteristics matter to him or just the utility of the gun matters. If the latter, any of the recommendations will work, but the Remington option has the best chance of making the gun worth the most later.

I remember Atlas. I went into the shop on north Central. There were still alot of small custom gun shops in Chicago at that time. I was not "into" sxs guns then, so did not pay much attention.
I am sure David Trevallion would remember them as he was working here at the time.

And only devalued the gun by a little over a thousand dollars, well, maybe two thousand. I hope he kept the old barrels. Most Atlas customers did not. Oh sure, he just threw the Damascus barrels down the hill. JR

Great info on Atlas, Drew and others.
Back when I first started frequenting this BB, there was a very strong "Damascus roulette" contingent. As Chuck points out, it was not all that long ago that you were pretty much in the nut case category if you were out there shooting Damascus, especially with smokeless loads.
