I lost two Boykins, one to theft and one that must have jumped off our pier when the lake had frozen over. (a rare occurance here in Alabama) My several great grandmother was Amelia Boykin. Her nephew Lemuel (Whit) Boykin is given credit for starting the breed. Hope your search is successful, I feel your pain.

Best wishes for your Boykin--- Also, contact the Cola. area vets-- a finder may notice she's just had surgery and take her in for care. The chip is a great idea, may well prove to be the best insurance you ever bought. Boykins are special, have Hope-- I can't imagine anyone looking into her eyes and not trying to do their best for her! Another idea-- contact www.boykinspanielsociety.orgGood luck! I'll post this info on some SC forums I'm a member of, too. Lets's get her home!

Many don't know that Boykin Spaniels are a South Carolina breed that originated just up the road from here at Boykin, SC (a few miles East of Camden, SC) I'm going back to the area tomorrow and call a few vets in the area. You may want to run an ad in the lost & found section of The State, The West Columbia Journal and the Carolina Trader papers. Best Wishes that you find her......George

A coupla good folks living in that area are on the look-out.
One passed along this # for Lexington County Animal Control: 803-(or maybe 843-?)- 785-8149.
Also suggested calling the Pets Inc. store in that area, didn't give #.
They are really trying to help out! Let's ger her home!

I have always been told not to have my dog's name on his collar, etc., as then someone who picked it up after becoming lost would be able to establish a bond with it. Any thoughts?

I tend to be an optimist and would hope that somebody who found my dog would try to befriend it in order to return it to me. That would probably apply to 90% of the population. Here in Hawaii the most common reason somebody steals a dog is to eat it.

I'm with Dr Bob. A tag with its name and owner's phone # will only help in retrieving a lost dog. I believe even more than 90% of the population will do the right thing.

"Reward--Needs Meds" Your name, cell #, home # Address
On a flat, riveted tag, on the collar, not hanging from a ring. On as many tags as it takes to get the above info on the collar. I returned LaVerne, a bony, half-starved beagle two weeks ago. She had a flat, riveted tag. She was 20 miles from her release on a deer drive and 5 days lost. The owner said it was his daughter's favorite and not much of a deer dog. Sweet as could be. She was deep in the woods walking woods roads where I was woodcock hunting.

For my dogs, their name on the tag is irrelavent in someone bonding with them. They are friendly, as I'm sure most of our member's hunting dogs are, and will go to strangers tails wagging. My rivetted tags don't have their names because there isn't a lot of room. The tag has my wife and my name on it to personalize that there is someone with a name missing this dog. I used to put my address on it too, but again, someone will call or not, address or not.
