I'd have someone that routinely does rib relaying look at it. The bulges almost always go between the ribs as well. Sometimes they bulge the ribs. Removing the ribs will give better access to working down the bulges. Dewey Vicknair's capabilities come to mind. There are likely many others.

Check the barrel wall thicknesses during the inspection period. Multiple bulges could be from very thin walls.

No one really knows what causes this in shotgun barrels, but it is not a good thing, and these guns with rivelling won't pass proof in the UK unless remedied, which is apparently very difficult to do.

I don't know what a "premium" price for this gun would be. Asking price is $1700 but when I pointed out the barrel he dropped it to $1500. What's a grade 2 Ithaca NID with one set of barrels, with a shortened stock and a cracked forend worth? The one barrel looks perfect, the receiver has a considerable amount of case colors and the wood is highly figured although short. 13" from front trigger to end of the word. I would probably put a walnut extension on it because I need about 15" LOP. It looked like a nice buy until I found those bulges.

did you do a 90 day search on gunbroker for guns similar to yours?
maybe you can find some that sold recently. that is is best way to determine the current value of the gun you are considering...my gut feel says you should pay no more than some wheres around a grand, including the cost of extending the stock.

also, for about $600 you could have briley fit a set of full length 20 ga tubes to be damaged barrels...might make a dandy skeet gun? and you could also have briley wack the tubes to 26" or 28" before they fit the 20 gauge insert tubes?

as my dad said " the easiest thing to do, is to spend someone else's money".

I am going to see if I can get some photos and post them here next week. It may make for a good discussion and a learning experience.

But for now it time to get ready for ice fishing this weekend. It's not often we get to ice fish with air temps. above above freezing this time of year. Only 5" inches of ice on the Mississippi on Jan. 5th!

Here's a photo of the barrel with the bulges. They can be seen looking into the barrel also. The bores are mirror otherwise. There are 6 bulges. The largest are easy to see. Any ideas of what caused this? Is it possible to repair something like this?

Do these form a ring all the way around the barrel?
