My friend the late Allen Thompson had eight little dimples like that down the bottom of the bottom barrel of his 12-gauge Diana Grade Trap Gun. It took Browning three years and a lot of phone calls, but the gun came back with new barrels, and no comment from Browning on what might have caused it?!?

Tom,
What guage is it? For a 12g it sounds pricey. If it's a 20g, it may be worth fixing. All that stock work stuff is the real money hole. The metal work would be a fraction of what a new stock costs. I think it's fixable from the pics. Not just any joe schmoe with dent raising experience. I'd trust CJ Opacek or Dewey Vicknair.

It's a 12 gauge and the bulges do not go all the way around the tube. Although I have not seen a lot of bulges, I would expect a bulge to be a single, larger area unless whatever caused it happened multiple times.

The wood work I can handle myself. That does not scare me but in any case I may just pass on this one. Just too many problems.

Any idea of what caused the bulges and if it is repairable?

In my opinion it would be very risky and expensive. I've learnt my own lessons and wouldn't touch a gun that had any barrel bulges at all.

I have heard but can't verify that this type of damage(dimpeling) can be caused by loose shot rolling down the barrel at the time the gun is fired.

Profesional opinion here gents . They have had there day . I dont know what the gun is worth but as it stand,it should be either hung on a wall or scrapped. My be worth sleeving and yes if you accept the fact that it is scrap the it might and I stress might, be worth taking the ribs off and "having a go" but from passed experience I would not hold my breath . Sorry .

It would be interesting to measure the wall thickness at the bulge, and on each side and top and bottom around each one. That would tell a lot. Maybe they can be repaired, maybe not. Need to know how much material there is there. If there is sufficient material, how could they be caused? I'll bet thin barrels at that point.

Given the stock issues and the barrel issues and considering the price, I'd punch out too. You could end up with $4k in this in no time, if you paid for the work. If the gun was sold valued as a one barrel gun with a chopped up stock at say $500-800, maybe it'd be worth a gamble...maybe not.

Juddering causes rivelling according to the late Mr. Thomas. What is juddering? Made up word to describe a hitch in the propulsive getalong.
