Daryl, if I'm not mistaken, the English blackneck originated around the Black Sea. Some game farms have them here, and I mounted one back in the late 60's that I shot on public grounds in New Jersey. They don't have the beautiful colored breast feathers like the Ringneck.

Hi Eugene, ah that's a shame, would have been nice to meet another forum member.
Not sure what type it is Daryl, but I did hear the keeper say he puts two difference types down.
Cheers T

Tony, does that pheasant have a white band around it's neck. Ours here do, but I see pheasants without the white band in Canada. The pheasant we all pretty much shoot is a Common Pheasant aka "ditch chicken" in the midwest or "mountain chicken" in China. They can vary greatly in color from a stereotypical South Dakota state bird 'ring neck' to a melanistic mutant - that's any color you may typically see on a pheasant's feathers. If you ever get to see a serious volume of pen-raised pheasant, you'll see variations that you'd think got in a paintball fight. Imagine a bird that's all blue, that bright blue you see on the side of their head, or one that's almost completely purple or green. They come in some strange colors.....

My shooting student Joe Wood didn't know a bird could be shot in the air until he started hunting with me.
Best,

Same here, Jerry, but you'd only wear them on a driven hunt.
Even though I only "rough shoot", and I do mean ROUGH, I do wear breeks, but wear some beautiful water-proofed leather boots from Le Chameau (sp?) my wife bought me years ago. They're high, and go right up to just under my knees, so my breeks flop over them. They're perfect when you hit the low swamps in the deep woods.
After all, you gotta have a little class when you tote a beautiful, vintage British shotgun into the briars! Well said!! Love my tweed breeks. I wear leather-lined Le Chameau boots and they are incredible - they make a huge difference.

Tony, does that pheasant have a white band around it's neck. Ours here do, but I see pheasants without the white band in Canada. We even had an albino in our area about 25 years ago. Unfortunately I wasn't the lucky one to get him. If I had he would be in my man room with my guns.

the red flashes (sock ties) are traditionally worn for driven shooting over here.
T Is that what's referred to in "Pull up your socks and chase the fox, a-hunting we will go"? Oh wait, that one is about hunting, not hunting... I'm confused And that's considering I got an A for the "Great Britain Studies" course at college. However, the course didn't say anything about either shooting or hunting - a major omission, I gather. The "American Studies" one did mention the bison and the wandering pidgeon at least. Seriously, it's good to see you having a good time

Tony, that second photo is hilarious. Looks like you found a cheaper alternative to non-tox shotshells.
