J. Duchateau, Liege, 12 GA. SIDELOCK, BAERTEN ENGRAVED, WOW!!! Jean Duchateau is one of the top 3 Belgian gunmakers, in the realm of Jules Bury, Lebeau Corually(?) and Francotte. This particular masterpiece was Angelo Bees personal gun and is now offered for sale Here is the link; http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=267179831Doesn't look according to the pictures as graceful to use in the field as Lebeau Courally or a Francotte.

Beutiful gun!
Several years ago my friend Don Young called Angelo Bee about a gun that was described as formerly being Mr. Bee's personal shotgun. Mr. Bee told him that he didn't have personal shotguns, he just engraved them.

No personal guns. That's a big discrepancy there and for the price he is asking for it a big hole in his arguement to ask for that price.

If this was in A. Bee's shop, what did he do the gun? Granted Duchateau was very good. He produced many fine guns, but he is not in the same class as Lebeau-Courally or Francotte who produced guns for royalty. Pete

Sans provenance, that looks like an $8000-$11000 Belgian gun. So I agree with all of you that if the provenance is weak, the value falls out from under this gun. I'm not sure how big the market is for belgian bests.
