I am in Colorado Springs for a few days and found an interesting Mauser in a shop. It is labeled as a G&H, but it appears to a "typical" Mauser sporter that has been through their shop at some time. The barrel is marked "barreled by Griffin and Howell" and is 30-06 with a decent bore. Action is stippled on top of receiver and only has the serial # on RH side and on LH side a number proceded by a smaller gb script. Double set triggers, no engraving. Safety wing is numbered 44 and does not match the last 2 on the receiver. Has G&H side mount base and a Lyman 35 (sight that replaces bolt release). Stock is what I call typical of a German sporter, with the panels on the sides of the receiver. This is not a pristine gun, but with proper attention could be made into a decent rifle (possible restock). Asking price is $2200 which seems high to me. What I need is a ball park idea of what this might be worth (I know no pictures) and would it be worth my time and effort to restock it (say a G&H "style" semiinlet) if the repair couldn't be cleaned up. I apologize for the lack of pictures and hope my description gives you enough of an idea. Also, what should I look for in addition to what I have described? Haven't asked the shop to take it out of the stock or anything. Thanks in advance.
