QTE Weight forward, as a pigeon gun ought to be, yet if feels a half pound lighter than it weighs. UNQTE
Hmmm. With no reply as yet to my weight of gun question, did some quick internet research to learn that the 1894 in 12 gauge weighs 7lbs 12 oz to 7 lbs 14 oz. I'd expect the metal work on this gun to have reduced that somewhat, but guess we are still in the 7 lbs 4-6 oz range. Sensible for a pigeon gun 'tho more than I normally use for upland or preserve birds... But it's less than my 10 gauge Lefever at over 8 lbs, and much prettier!

I mosied over and took a look at the rules just see what I see and this caught my eye: The estimated fair market value of ACGG #27 for tax purposes is $12,569.91. The tax liability will be 28% of that amount or $3,519.57 to the winner of #27. Good luck! ~Will I read that before I dropped the money on my five tickets. I figure at a total cost of $3620 plus the BS to get it up to Canada, it's still such a good deal that if you called me up and offered me the gun tomorrow at that price I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. It won't be free when I win, but it will be heavily subsidized. As I am Canadian, that is as it should be. LOL

Tim, I hesitated to answer earlier BUT since the #27 gun is going to visit me in the next few days before the DSC show I'll weigh it and report back. How does that sound ??? Honestly, I thought it weighed 7.5 lbs but I don't remember. Doug Best of the Season

Doug, the still life is very nice, but why are the bird hooks on the Mills belt facing "UP"? Maybe they are suspender hooks, but every Mills bird belt I have owned has the suspenders sewn on. By the way, for the first time in years, I am without a Model 1894. I'm looking forward to the raffle.

Tim, I'm sure I weighed the gun but it is not in my story and I trashed my notes. One has to chose what to put in every story and I chose to discuss other things.
Bill, I shot all the photos of this gun. The Mills belt is mine, the only one (shotgun shell belt) I've ever seen or photographed. I've owned it for 30+ years and actually used it duck hunting all those years ago. The presumed home made, galvanized steel head hangers/hooks, are inadvertantly pushed upward in the photo. An ultra discriminating viewer might notice the lack of gauge marking on the cartridge box... Best, Steve

Steve, I actually use a Mills bird belt occasionally, normally let it hang loose by the suspenders, unbuckled. They are not of much use if the suspenders are removed. In the sixties, when the Austrian engraver Franz Marktl first came to this country, I visited him in his shop. I brought him a worn Mills buckle with all detail on the dog missing. I asked if he would be interested in engraving my buckle and bringing the dog back to full detail, with hair. A while later, I dropped in on him and he said my buckle was ready. He had done a great job on the dog, bringing great detail back, lots of hair and shadowing. I was very pleased. I asked him what he needed to be paid. He told me ten dollars would be about right. He explained that he had been diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection, been hospitalized for a couple of days, and, as an afterthought, brought the buckle and a couple of tools with him. He engraved the buckle free hand without a vise in bed and said he didn't feel comfortable charging his regular prices! No fuss, no muss. Bill Murphy

I promised that when I received the ACGG gun I would weigh it to answer Tim's question. The answer is (drum roll please) 7 lbs 7.8 ozs as measured on my digital postal scale. That's an empty weight as I don't load live rounds in the house.
