I am looking at a WW Greener 12 ga hammer gun with damascus barrels. The shotgun has been nicely restored to full case colors, and the barrels are browned nicely, the bores are bright. On the side of the gun is written "The Greener". I would be interested to know more about this gun and a ballpark figure of what this is worth so I could make an offer. Thanks for any help.

Did WW Greener actually mark the sides of the actions "The Greener" on some of their guns? They very well could have, I guess I've never seen it though. Other more familiar with Greeners might be able to verify that.
I would definitely want to see the markings under the barrels. You should see Birmingham proof marks, and Greener's "Elephant" trade mark. If you see the notorious E.L.G in a circle, run.

Yes, you want to check proof marks in case it is a Belgian knock off. Or could it be a model produced by either of WW Greener's two brothers' J.H. or Albert?

Be careful Greener was one of the most copied....there are lots of low quality knock offs and more than a few higher quality ones.

My "J Manton" 16 ga SXS had the ELG proofmarks. At least the Belgians did not mess around the proofs. Mike

My bet is that it is a Belgium Gun. Greener didnt use that Signature on their Guns.

I thought I remembered something I read a long time ago about a gun called "The Greener". After some searching ,this is what I found. So, I think the gun in question is probably a knock off.
A popular gun was called the Greener gun, invented and manufactured by William Greener of Birmingham, England. These guns fired large, heavy harpoons into the whale at a greater distance than was possible with a hand darted harpoon. These guns could also fire a large bomb lance into the whale. The Greener gun allowed a much heavier projectile than a shoulder gun.

kolhoznik,Recomend that you check the spelling of the name on the gun."Greenen" was often the name engraved on spurious Greener guns.[See Greeners book," The Gun," page 415].Otherwise as suggested by others post picture of the gun including proof marks for positive identification.
