Thanks all! I was a EOD Tech & in the US Army for 14 years, I have the skin to handle the honest truth.
Like I said, I have $350 into it - so I don't feel I am out much.
Thanks to the reply's here: I do have a plan, and thats to get the barrels checked out to see if it could become safe(r) as a shooter.
So other than the additional cost (screws, nails, wood & varnish) in mounting it to a wall, that I don't have to worry about insurance then?
While overseas with the Army in 2007, I had an entire gun safe stolen and all the firearms as well.
I did NOT have an additional '
rider' on my home owner policy and the maximum they paid out was a paltry $1500.
I had 15 firearms worth about 12,000 dollars total! To date only TWO have been recovered and getting those two back is a NIGHTMARE of red-tape & delays!
Hence, my desire to have this shotgun DOCUMENTED in some manner. One cannot consult (Or can they!?) a book and determine the value on antique or custom firearms. Off the shelf & newly manufactured firearms are more easily valued - especially so in a REPLACEMENT insurance rider! BUT, the value must be determined to reflect the cost of the policy.
All the best!
