Man what a beautiful old gun you have traded for...(looks like it was originally a very high quality gun).

First thing I would do is send it to Purdey's of London to be totally restored ...(the sky's the limit with this jewel).

Then I would insure it for 60 to 80 grande with Loyd's of London.

Your son will be very proud of this fine gun.

I can't wait to see photos and hear the total investment....nothing like being totally upside down in a vintage gun.

That's not just practiced skill. You're seeing rare, native talent.

But, backing up a bit, jOe has a point though he may have gone a bit too far.



The thing is, there's no way of knowing what this particular gun's potential is until it gets a good hard look at the barrels from a qualified smith. If the barrels are good, then it's probably worth the time and effort to work on the stock and the hammer. If not, then not, and hang it on the wall. The stockwork is probably something that someone with some woodworking skill, proper instruction and tools can do at home.

Will, apart from what has been said, for an insurance valuation there are a couple of points .
Do you need to show a written valuation or other documentation as or its purchase price ? If not then assume it is in reasonable shootable condition and use that as the basis of what you would expect to pay for similar gun to replace it . Look on any of the sales sites for current asking prices.
There are 3 values a gun or any other object has,
1 what you would pay over the counter in a store .
2 what you would insure it for if it needed to be replaced ,add about 20%.
3 how much you could get for it if you have to sell it today /now.

A way you could determine an amount to insure .At the moment it stands you at $350 assume you spend $500 on it which will add value so that $850 plus say 30% , that comes to $1100 .If you feel that is realistic then that's the value to insure.

You could not be more wrong...why would you try and get this guy to throw good money at this gun ?

There's an old saying "one mans junk is another mans treasure"....

This gun is the exception it's "every mans junk".
